2008 Software Marketing Perspectives Conference Call for Papers

Software Magazine and King Content Co. invite you to submit a session title and abstract description of 50 to 100 words to be considered for a presentation at the 2008 Software Marketing Perspectives Conference and Expo, to be held from May 7-9, 2008 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif.

Conference Description

The Software Marketing Perspectives Conference and Expo is the leading industry forum for technology product managers and marketing managers and their VPs and directors, to stay current in their field and network with peers. The conference adopts a comprehensive view of the responsibilities of technology product managers and those of the surrounding members of the product management and marketing team.

The conference program includes opportunities for speakers with track records in product management — stories from the trenches — to relate experiences for the benefit of peers. We are seeking speakers with experience in product management, product marketing or marketing communications to share insights. We are also seeking presentations from customers who can attest to the value of effective product management and marketing

Selection Criteria

The SMP event attendees will be a demanding audience. King Content and its program advisory team will accept the most compelling submissions that meet our criteria. Everyone who submits a speaking proposal will receive a response. Selection criteria are:

  • Alignment with conference themes of: effective product management, effective product marketing portfolio management and executive management.
  • Applicability: The successful presentations will speak to the latest techniques, methods, tools and ideas by presenting the practical application of the material, including real world examples.
  • Creativity/Innovation/Originality: A presentation that advances existing concepts or introduces new ideas is better than a presentation that repeats widely known information. The timeliness and freshness of ideas is important.
Proposal Submission

For each 45-minute session you wish to propose, please email the following information to SpeakerManager@smpevent.com:

  • Title and abstract of the topic to be presents (approximately 100 words);
  • Title and brief biography of the presenter (approximately 50 words);
  • Presentat photo (Jpeg, Gif format for the Web).
  • Presentations contact information (name, address, phone, fax, email)

Speakers will receive two complimentary full registrations for the conference, as well as admission to all event activities, including any lunches and receptions.

The deadline for response is Friday, Dec. 21, 2007. Thank you for your interest in participating in this exciting and valuable conference.

Further Guidance

Selection of suggested topics from past SMP event attendees:

  • Pricing best practices;
  • Open source and licensing, sale and acquisition;
  • Balancing large, long-term view of generating products, with small, tactical maintenance features of existing products;
  • Best practices for integrating internationalization in the product development lifecycle;
  • How to retain high-end technology professionals;
  • How to build offshore customer support;
  • Supporting/maintaining integration with third-party products;

Selection of suggested emerging topics from past SMP event attendees:

  • Offshore/nearshore/remote management of development teams;
  • Transitioning to a SaaS model;

  • Integration with social networks; where is the value?

Key messages to try to convey: Tell attendees how to do things, what works, success stories, lessons learned, case study experiences.

What not to do: Pitch own product, talk in generalities, espouse theory.
